This may come as news to owners of 4G smartphones, but the Internet apparently isn't fast enough and needs to speed up. Google and Microsoft have submitted separate proposals to accomplish this. Google's SPDY proposal defines and implements an application-layer protocol that reduces latency and seeks to replace parts of the HTTP protocol. It is already being used by Mozilla and Twitter.
